The Lot is Toronto’s Newest and freshest Comedy Club with shows on Friday and Saturday nights.
Its Located in the Lower Ossington Theatre (hence The ‘LOT’), and the is smack dab in the middle of Hipster paradise just above Queen and Ossington.
Your going to want to say you went to The Lot first, because you literally get to see comic legends in the making. Not to mention that once people catch word of this place you’ll be scrambling to get a seat.
The Lot lacks the tacky vibe that you would associate with big comedy chains like Yuk Yuk’s or Absolute Comedy. The Lot isn’t attempting to market itself to a corporate middle aged audience. There will be no “What’s the deal with…?” Jokes here. The Lot books talented young up and coming acts that offer refreshing contemporary comic voices. This is not to be confused with amateur comedy, these are professional tightly run shows with very skilled hosts and entertainers.
The Lot is a breath of fresh air in the Toronto Comedy scene. If you’ve given live stand up a chance in the past, and felt like it was amateur, cheap or disingenuous. You need to give getting out to see live Stand Up another opportunity. Its a massive resource of entertainment that is drastically under attended and under appreciated. Its in-expsenive entertainment that you will be talking about, quoting, and giggling to yourself under your breath for weeks.
I highly recommend that you get out and support independent Canadian comedy in the great city of Toronto, and make going to The Lot a priority. You will not be disappointed!, and your going to want to come back for more laughs.
I had the distinct pleasure of performing on last nights show (Friday Sep 7th 2012), and will be back again tonight (Saturday Sep 8th 2012) performing on the late show at 12am.
The Lot Runs 4 shows every weekend at 10pm and 12am on Friday and Saturday Night. Tickets are only $12 bucks each or two for $20, and beers are only $4.50. This is an amazing price for the show, and cheap drinks is just a bonus.
Performing on Friday September 7th’s show were Mike Rita, Katherine Ferns, Steve Patrick Adams, Kevin Soldo, Al Val, Rob Mailloux, and myself Calwyn Shurgold. Dave Merheje from MTV Live also dropped in for a set. Thats just another reason to check out a show at The Lot, you never know who will drop in for a set.
